Genuine Fleetguard FS1098 Fuel Water Separator
Fleetguard printed can, part number FS1098, Cummins number 5319680 on the label, made in China as Cummins Filtration marks it. It is already carrying our own bin label reading S1-A, so this unit has been counted here before.
FS1098 is the water separating stage on the Cummins mid range engines, the ISB B6.7 and ISL L9, and the Paccar PX-7 and PX-9 badged versions of the same engines. It uses Stratapore media, which is a layered synthetic rather than pleated paper, and it is fitted upstream of the fine fuel filter. The separator is where free water gets pulled out of the fuel before it can reach an injector body and rust it from the inside. On a truck or a bus that sits outdoors through a northern BC winter, that is not a theoretical risk.
