The suction strainer bolts inside the hydraulic tank on the pump inlet. It is coarse mesh, not media, and it exists purely to keep debris out of the main pump. Nobody changes these on a schedule, which is the problem. When one partly blocks or the mesh collapses, the pump starves under load, cavitates, and takes itself apart while sounding perfectly healthy at idle. If you are in the tank for any reason, this is the part worth having on hand.
